Blastocyst Culture

Welcome to Color IVF and Fertility! For couples struggling with natural conception, IVF can offer a promising solution. However, some couples may experience difficulty conceiving through a 3rd day embryo transfer, which can result in multiple cycles of IVF with no success. In such cases, a blastocyst IVF transfer on day 5 may be a great alternative to fertilization.

A blastocyst transfer involves transferring one or more embryos at the blastocyst formation stage of development, which typically occurs on the 4th or 5th day of fertilization. This advanced stage of the embryo consists of two different cell types with more than 70-100 cells, and is more successful than a 3rd-day embryo transfer. Understanding the differences between a 3rd, 4th, and 5th-day embryo transfer is crucial for couples to choose the best option for their specific needs.

A 3rd day embryo transfer is the most commonly used practice in IVF and has a high success rate if all conditions are in favor of the patient. By the 4th day, the embryo has divided into 16 cells and has arrived at the Morula stage. While transferring a morula as part of an IVF cycle is not common, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that it is more or less successful than a 3rd-day transfer.

The success rate of blastocyst transfers is around 80%, as blastocysts are better equipped to survive in the uterus than embryos due to the different environment in the fallopian tube. After transfer, the blastocyst hatches out of its shell and attaches itself to the uterus by the end of day 2, beginning the implantation process which continues until day 5. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is released into the bloodstream as the fetal and placenta tissue begin to develop, confirming pregnancy after the 9th day.

There is no evidence to suggest that a certain sleeping position is better for implantation than others. However, it is important to avoid alcohol, smoking, caffeine, fizzy drinks, heavy lifting, strenuous activities, and hot baths during the implantation process.
